Rhythm bones are an instrument that stretch back millennia (ever since humans started playing with their food). Traditionally, the instrument consists of a pair of flattened animal bones, but many bones today are fashioned from wood.
A practice chanter such as this one is the best way to get started on learning to play Scottish bagpipes. It’s a relatively cheap instrument, being training wheels for the real thing, but can create beautiful melodies in its own right.
The kalimba (AKA mbira, finger harp, thumb piano, sanza) is classified by musicologists as a lamellaphone for its small metal tines. Kalimba-like instruments have existed in Africa for thousands of years.

The cümbü (Turkish for revelry) is an oud-like instrument resembling a banjo, & is typcially fretless. It was developed in 1930 by Zeynel Abidin Cümbü, who took his last name from the instrument, rather than naming the instrument after himself.
