Port Police divers training at the Kirby Morgan Professional Dive Center in Santa Maria, CA. Training focused on surface supplied diving protocols, manifold operations, dive helmet troubleshooting and salvage operations.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, there were over 700,000 vessels registered in California in 2019. That’s 6% of all vessels in the U.S.! With weather like this, that’s probably not surprising. Please remember to wear your life jacket. The Port Police has partnered with California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW) to make life jackets available to the public on a loan basis (free). For more info go to: http://dbw.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=29179 In 2019, there ...were 439 victims of drowning nationally. 362 of those victims were not wearing a life jacket. Stop by the Port Police, borrow a life jacket, and talk to our officers about boating safety. https://www.uscgboating.org//Recreational-Boating-Statisti
The Port Police Dive Team conducted a training dive with LASD-SEB at SoFi Stadium this week. Divers used the opportunity to practice low visibility diving, as well as the use of hand-held sonar equipment. The Port Police established a Port Dive Operations Group (PDOG) made up of several local, state, and federal agencies who constantly train together in unique environments. This training has allowed PDOG to remain extremely effective and efficient when called upon. #publicsafetydiver #PDOG #training #GoChargers
