All right! 1st Interpreting for California Symposium coming up! http://www.languageallies.com/e-v-e-n-t-s
Unfortunately, Governor Brown vetoed AB 2325. He did not consider there was a language access problem in California's health care system to warrant the creation of an interpretation program for Medi-Cal patients. This was the third straight year where Governor Brown did not agree with the Senate and Assembly on this issue. We'll try again next year.
If you are a medical interpreter patient or instructor and support AB 2325 to create a medical interpreting program from Medi-Cal patients, give the governor a ...call RIGHT NOW asking him o sign the bill. The English phone line is jammed, and you can't even leave a message, but if you press 2 to be assisted in Spanish, there is still no one that can take your call, but you have the option to leave a message. Leave it in Spanish. Call (916) 445-2841 and (916)322-7152. If you get a busy signal, keep hitting redial on your phone until you get through. I only had to hit redial 3 times. Getting through and leaving a message in Spanish took me less than 2 minutes.
National Council on Interpreting in Health Care (NCIHC)
Next step in advocacy for medical interpreters will be the California Workers' Compensation fee schedule for medical interpretations. The fee schedule will be published by the CA Department of Industrial Relations. Stay tuned!
The Comparative Analysis series kicked off 2015 with a presentation at the CHIA Conference on March, 7. It was attended by about 80 people in a conference room that was filled to capacity. Representatives from the National Board and the Certification Commission were among the audience making valuable additions to the conversation. If you missed it, you can attend the next webinar brought to you by Language Allies. For more information, go to www.languageallies.com

How important is it to get trained and certified if you are a medical interpreter in California? IT ENSURES PATIENT SAFETY! If that is not enough, Senate Bill... 863 allows you to interpret in occupational health. Assembly Bill 635 will do the same in the public health sector with Medi-Cal patients. See more
Make sure you make it to the 1st Interpreting for California event in 2015!
The next meeting for Interpreting for California is coming up this Saturday, July 12 at 11 AM at 2201 Broadway Ave. in the 2nd Floor Conference Room in Oakland, CA. They will go over the information shared during the first meeting in May where around 25 people attended. They will also talk about the Forum hosted by Assembly member Rob Bonta on June 20 where around 50 people attended, and we’ll get an update on where AB 2325 stands. To house all attendants comfortably, we will meet in a larger conference room, so RSVP to Rosa Advincula by writing to [email protected] or calling 619-206-5179. Interpreting for California Speaks the Language of Care.
