This was posted in one of the local groups I belong to and thought it was worth sharing. Thank you to Martha Y. Vega. I hear people saying that we are all in th...e same boat. NO, WE ARE NOT! We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat. My ship can be a shipwreck and yours may not. And vice versa. For some, quarantine is optimal: a moment of reflection, of reconnection. Soft sailing in flip flops, with a whiskey or tea. For others, this is a desperate crisis. For some, peaceful, restful time, a staycation. For others, torture: How am I going to pay my bills? Some were busy choosing a brand of chocolate for Easter. Others are worried about the bread for the end of the week, or if the can goods and pasta are enough for a few more days. Some are in the "home office" of their country home. Others are stirring up trash to survive. Some want to go back to work because they are running out of money. Others (like ME at times of anxiety) want to kill those who break the quarantine because they are at the store EVERYDAY! Some need to break the quarantine to stand in line at the banks or grocery stores. Others criticize the government Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this pandemic. Others say the worst is yet to come. So, friends, we are not in the same boat. We are passing a moment in which our perceptions and needs are COMPLETELY different. And each one will come out of that storm in his own way. Some with a nice pool or back yard tan. Others with scars on their souls. For such obvious reasons (and others invisible), it is very important to see beyond what is seen at first sight. Not just looking, but more than looking, seeing. See beyond the political party, beyond religion, beyond the navel itself. Do not underestimate the pain of the other if you do not feel it. Let us not judge so much when I myself know it is so easy to do. I am guilty of that We are on different ships. The medical staff and first responder's ship is in the middle of "the perfect store" food industry ship (ours) is in the outskirts of the storm while other ships are parked in the harbor. We are in the same storm for sure. See more
