Hello Omnivore Friends! There is a great opportunity to support your local farmers happening over the next couple of days. The Future Farmers of America is a yo...uth group that helps teach young people how to raise farm animals. During normal times, young people interested in farming raise animals to show at the various county fairs across the state. After the fair, the animals are sold at auction and the proceeds go to the young farmer who raised the animals. Unfortunately, with all of the county fairs being cancelled this has really screwed up the plans for these young farmers. Thankfully, Bidcal.com, Bids for Kids and local processors have stepped in to help solve the issue. These groups have teamed up with the FFA to move the auction online and it STARTS TODAY! So here is how it works: Log onto Bidcal.com and check out the auction lots they have available. If you are financially able and willing, bid on a pig, or lamb or steer, or clutch of rabbits. If you are the winning bidder, the FFA has arranged for the transportation of the animals to one of the local processing facilities, where they will be harvested, packaged and frozen. All you have to do is arrange for pickup of the frozen meat in a few weeks. If you live far away from here, I may be able to assist with shipping, just message me directly Bidcal is doing this auction for free and the FFA is coordinating in support of their young farmers, so I want to share my gratitude for their assistance to the farming community! There are so many positives to this auction: You get meat from an animal that was raised with care, attention and love. Young farmers get a bit of money for all the effort they have put in, and you get an opportunity to support your local food-shed and fill your freezer. Just take a look at the photos of the kids with their animals. These animals were raised by kids who loved them and cared for them. If you are a farmer, FFA member, 4-H'er or community member involved with the county fair in other areas, this seems to be a great way to solve the issue of what happens to all these FFA animals. Get ahold of your local auction house and see if they can set this up in your area. Are you one of my chef friends? This is a great opportunity to stock up and help your community. Think this is great but don't want a whole animal? Send me a message, maybe I can connect you with others to split the meat. This was organized very quickly, so please share this post with your network of friends and family and lets get the word out to as many bidders as we can! The photo is of me, showing my cow Fashion at the Houston County Fair in Houston Minnesota in 1996. And another photo of Betty Landercasper with Fashion on our front lawn from that same summer.

Hey Northern California friends: We still have about 400 jars of Landerosa Farms Organic Tomato Sauce made with Landerosa Farms Organic Tomatoes! If you or someone you know is struggling to keep food on the table during this difficult time, please let us know. Every year at our peak production we have too many tomatoes, so we gather that abundance up to save it for the lean times in the form of Landerosa Farms tomato sauce. ... It seems as though there could be many members of our community who will experience lean times during this national emergency, and we want to do our small part to help. So we are happy to donate our sauce to anyone in need. Also, If you are able to purchase our sauce, we will gladly accept payment and will donate all profits to our local food banks. Please reach out here or to Landy's page to coordinate! Keep Calm and wash your hands! Thanks, Landerosa Farms Team
