The City of La Mesa, in partnership with San Diego County Library will host a Story Trail at Briercrest Park, 9001 Wakarusa Street, from April 1 - 30. Story Trails are being launched at parks throughout the County to celebrate Dia de los Ninos/Dia de los Libros (Day of the Child/Day of the Book) in conjunction with activity kits and book giveaway at county libraries. A series of 19 signs with originally written and designed stories from San Diego County Librarians has been placed around the park. Due to the current health guidelines, group lessons will continue to be taught with the swim instructor on the pool deck and will require an adult in the water with participants. Progress continues on the new Community Garden at MacArthur Park! Volunteers have been working hard to build the garden beds, upgrade the clubhouse, and add more finishing touches to the garden. Applications for a space are now open! Beds will be given out on a lottery basis and those applicants selected will be notified at the end of March. This playground features an awesome treehouse, EDCO climbing truck, slides, swings, and a variety of other structures and attractions for children! Consistent with recent guidance provided by the California Department of Health and the County of San Diego, the City of La Mesa will be reopen its outdoor playgrounds and outdoor recreational facilities. The reopening guidance applies to all outdoor playground facilities at all City parks and the Secret Stairs. As required by the State, any resident or guest 2 years of age or older must wear a mask.
