In honor of National Recovery Month, we will be sharing life change stories of how CR has impacted millions of lives. Meet Stephanie and Matt. Stephanie: Five y...ears ago I was introduced to CR during a very difficult period in my life. I was struggling on a day to day basis just to survive in my marriage at the time. A marriage that was consumed by lies, infidelity, and abuse. Out of desperation I went to Celebrate Recovery. With the mentality that I wasn't one of "those people". Little did I know, I was about to have my world rocked. In a good way! My very first time there, a woman of wealth with a great job and a homeless woman living out of her car, both sat at the table and shared how they struggled with the same issue. In that moment, I knew that CR was made for everyone. As I continued my journey through step study I was able to peel back the layers of my life. Facing the hurt and trauma of my past experiences. It was these tools and more importantly Jesus, that led me to realize that my worth wasn't in what others said about me or did to me. Rather, my worth came from God, who has a plan for me. A plan to be happy and prosperous. And like in Romans 5:3-5, I could rejoice in my sufferings. I'm so thankful for where I am today. A new marriage built on Christ, kids pursuing Jesus, and my extra curricular activities of offering hope to those who are where I once was. Turns out I was just like "those people". Hurt and broken. Matt: A few years ago God carried me through a very painful divorce that left me broken. It was only by his grace that I made it through. As he started to heal me and piece my life back together he challenged me to get rid of the pride and selfishness in my heart that had been so destructive to my life as well as the relationships around me. He called me to grow in humility and has called all of us to be transformed to become more like Christ Jesus. Celebrate Recovery has been an important part of the never ending journey of learning to overcome pride and live in humility. I am so thankful for God’s love, mercy and grace and I am thankful for Celebrate Recovery!! Thanks for sharing a Stephanie and Matt.
