It all started in 1968. Charles Bello bought 240 acres of redwoods in Northern California with his wife, Vanna Rae. Seeking a simpler way of life they spent all their savings and borrowed money from their parents to be able to afford the property. Back then it cost $45,000. Here in this photo see the meadow that greets you when you visit the Bello Ranch. Originally it was littered with debris left behind from years of logging. The meadow now supports a healthy new-growth of r...edwoods. Fifty-three years later, Charles, a civil engineer, and architect who apprenticed under the famed modernist architect Richard Neutro in Los Angles, is a widower. His two grown sons have now moved away.
