Let’s Talk About Campfire Safety! Mono County is home to about 95% public land, with vast forested wilderness, alpine meadows and high desert terrain. The beaut...iful landscape and abundant outdoor recreation opportunities are a big reason why people choose to visit or live here. These simple rules will help keep our paradise safe from fire devastation: Observe all local fire restrictions, and get a campfire permit at your local visitor center or visit PreventWildfiresCa.org. Clear all sticks, pine cones and other flammable materials five feet in all directions from the campfire and keep a shovel and a bucket of water nearby. Keep campfires small. Never leave a campfire or lit camp stove unattended. Ever. Do NOT build a campfire if it is windy. One less spark, one less wildfire. Ensure your campfire is completely extinguished before you leave. Drown it, stir it, feel itdouse the fire with water, stir the ashes, and make sure nothing is still smoldering below the surface. Be aware of where you park. Hot mufflers and catalytic converters can easily ignite brush on fire. Maintain your vehicle’s brakes and tire pressure. Blowouts and scraping metal cause sparks. If towing, make sure nothing is dragging. Personal fireworks are prohibited in Mono County (with the exception of select locations in Bridgeport on July 4th). Local fire departments supervise public fireworks displays on Independence Day in Mammoth Lakes, Crowley Lake and Bridgeport.
Well, we made it back to Montana with our next load. Back in Tennessee, Bella, Leah, Marnie, Red and Loki are livin the life! They are in great hands getting s...poiled every minute! We aren’t able to fit everyone on the trailer this trip but they will be going to their new homes at the end of the month. But in the meantime, they will be enjoying the nice big pasture, with a creek, plenty of food and lots of friends. While the others are out in the pasture Bella is enjoying her stall and her own pasture. Even though she would rather be in the stall then out silly girl! She is getting stronger everyday and filling out so much! Her spirits are up and she will follow you anywhere! She will be staying there until she is healthy enough and ready for a new home. But until then she will enjoy being pampered like she very much deserves! If you would like to make a donation to help with their care please consider making a donation. We couldn’t do what we do without your support and we appreciate you so much! Thank you for being an amazing part of these horses lives!

The lake has iced out. There may be some ice in shady coves. There is some patchy snow on the ground. Drove down Honker Cove this afternoon, as far as the r...estrooms. Drove the truck in; in 2wd. Pretty rough through the icy area. Did not drive down the ramp, it looked pretty dicey. Do not have an update on the West Side yet. Fish are being caught; both bait fishing and fly; off of Grizzly Campground, Coot Bay and Mallard Cove. See more

It’s that time of year again! If you have pumpkins that you would like to dispose of and feed some happy animals at the same time, let us know. We can pick up... or you can drop off to watch the fun! We have a variety of farm animals that last year enjoyed about 30 pumpkins throughout the beginning of October. Pumpkins that have been painted are ok, we just make sure we clean the paint off prior to them being eaten. We’re located in Portola and are available for pick up or drop off Tuesday through Saturdays! Thanks. The four legged furry and feathered family members appreciate it! ;) See more
This place needs to stay open, if for nothing else public safety. Plumas can be a lonely place after 6 pm. Donate if you can, share, order food!
Thanks Kimberly! I've been completely out of sorts since Halloween. Check on your friends.
Tina Hale provided this in honor of her new life. Grand Adventures, Tina!
