While you were sleeping, at approximately 2:30 am this morning officers responded to the 800 block of Bluebird Canyon Dr. regarding a vehicle burglary in progress. Officers checked the area and located the involved vehicle speeding down Diamond Street. Officers conducted a traffic stop and contacted two adult males and a juvenile. A search of the vehicle was conducted and officers located several pieces of mail from residents in Laguna Beach and Huntington Beach, along with s...everal packages. All three were taken into custody for several misdemeanors and felonies. With Christmas right around the corner please, please, please LOCK your vehicles and REMOVE your belongings. Be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activity. Please also make it a habit to check your mail daily and remove the contents. We recommend purchasing a lockable mailbox so your incoming mail is secure. Additionally, if you are shopping online and expecting package deliveries be sure to track the package to anticipate its arrival. If you will not be home when the package arrives ask a trusted neighbor or friend to pick it up for you. If you think you were a victim of this incident or have questions regarding the mail that was found please contact Detective Drake or Detective Milot at 949-497-0701.

There has been a recent trend of phone scams referencing the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the suspension of Social Security numbers. The scam involves phone numbers with an Orange County area code. Both the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Federal Trade Commission (FTC) indicate the phone scams are an attempt to fraudulently obtain money or personal information. Please refer to the attached infographic for further details.

The Grinch decided to get an early start to his hijinks this year. On Saturday, November 27, at approximately 1:13 a.m., there arose such a clatter near a resident's vehicle, which caused the homeowner to look out the window. He saw a male subject trying to steal his dirt bike. The resident yelled at the subject, which caused him to flee on a separate motorcycle. Thanks to a thorough description of the suspect, LBPD officers, like a raptor on the hunt, located and detained a... subject in the nearby area. The suspect had a motorcycle next to him and was "fixing" a separate vehicle, since he is a mechanic. Because that's what we do at 1 in the morning, right? The suspect told officers the motorcycle was a friend's. LBPD officers were able to contact the bike's owner, who told them it had been stolen from Banning and no one had permission to possess it. While speaking to the resident who witnessed the attempted theft, officers noticed a nearby carport with a separate motorcycle that had its ignition broken and various pieces of the bike on the ground below. Nearby, several cabinets within the carport had their locks broken as well. The suspect was arrested for various charges, including vehicle theft. During a search of his person, various burglary tools including a window punch were located. He spoke with LBPD officers at the station and relayed his story. With each lie, the proverbial nose grew several inches until finally, he admitted to trying to steal both motorcycles and breaking into the cabinets. He was eventually transported to Orange County Jail.

Yesterday morning, officers were dispatched to a single vehicle traffic collision. The vehicle collided with a traffic sign and hit a curb before stopping in the roadway. When officers tried to contact the driver, the female was slumped over the steering wheel and unresponsive. In the interior of the vehicle numerous types of narcotics were located, along with evidence of narcotics sales. The driver was arrested and transported to the hospital for treatment. Please remember, no matter how well you are paying attention to the road and your surroundings while driving, there is always a risk that someone like the person above is not. Drive safely
