The county must resist a narrative about these young people that does not leave space for hope and healing, and insist on a structure that promotes positive youth development and rehabilitation at all costs. - @mridleythomas @SheilaKuehl https://www.latimes.com//la-county-could-dismantle-juvenil
During the coronavirus pandemic, #RedondoBeach is bringing the court to the people. Outdoor Court allows people experiencing homelessness to appear in person to resolve Misdemeanor charges and Non-Traffic Infractions. No one is arrested, fined, or sent to jail. Instead, our #PublicDefenders work to get cases dismissed and connect people with services & treatment. Special thanks to the entire #PublicDefender team! #LAJustice #LACounty
To our nation’s heroes, thank you for your bravery and service! #veteransday

Taking away the fundamental right to vote is one example of how mass incarceration is designed to perpetuate racial inequities. Restoring parolees’ voting rights will give them not only a chance at redemption, but also add their valued voice back to our communities. - Ricardo D. Garcia https://www.latimes.com//proposition-17-parole-felonies-vo
Our team can now refer our clients on probation or parole to East Los Angeles College’s College, and Career Addiction Studies Program called Formerly or Currently Incarcerated Students (FOCIS). These students can earn a Prevention Specialist Certificate and secure employment in the field as Addiction Counselors. This program gives our clients a chance to earn an education that will allow them to join the workforce! The wonderful fact about working in the field of addiction treatment is that one’s background will not affect their ability to secure employment!
Our team, working w/ @bailproject, has scored releases for people who would have otherwise remained in custody! The expansion of the use of certified law clerks in our department has been a great benefit to clients and staff.
