#Repost @armoryarts - Tomorrow: Join Karen Mack & Nicole Rademacher in conversation on the effects and responses to isolation, social distancing, and the pandemic on our communities and us as individuals. Visit our link in bio or linktr.ee/armoryarts to RSVP and receive your unique Zoom link. . . . .... Thursday's talk is the second installment of "Active Voice: Conversations at the Intersection of Art, Community, and Social Justice," moderated by the Armory's Heber Rodriguez. This new monthly series is inspired by the conversations and reflections in the year under lockdown orders. As difficult as the challenges of the past year have been, they have also offered some opportunity for the arts community to reset, root out inequities, look beyond business-as-usual, and imagine different models built through collaboration. . . . . @lacommons @nicrrad @acogedor.space @heberrodmayen #ActiveVoice #HealingCenteredEngagement #Lockdown #LockdownArt #LockdownLife #PandemicLife #OneYearAgo #OneYearLater #Conversation #Reflection #SocialJustice #ArmoryExhibitions #ArmoryArts See more

Artist Statement: Handwriting is as individual as fingerprints. Now that we’re constantly typing it feels even more unique. I asked my circle to WRITE me a note about voting, share a memory or a motivation. These are the voices of beloved aunts, valued colleagues, the gals from book club and the gym, my piano teacher, friends of the family, neighbors, my daughter’s old babysitteryou get the range. Different backgrounds, different life experiences, but each one committed to raising her voice through her vote. Every. Single. Election. You can always count on the ladies. #govote Art by @visockyogrady

Artist Statement: During shelter in place using objects surrounding me in my home, I constructed an image that touches on just a few of the reasons why voting is critical to our well-being in this country. This poster was designed and completed when two of the three current (seismic events) were in full swing: Covid 19 and economic collapse. Highlights in the image that speak to the concerns of today mirroring my values: women’s rights/civil rights/democracy/environmental sustainability and repair/inner peace and love. LA Commons 27.08.2020

Artist Statement: There are so many messages today employing fear and facts. Those tactics can be very successful, but for this project I wanted to use beauty as a means to draw people to the message and inspire voting. Flowers not only represent beauty but women and the feminine as well. And they come in many colors! For this project the image seemed perfectly befitting. Los Angeles Artist @louisesandhaus #govote

LA Commons 09.08.2020

Artist Statement: The female physical body was, and continues to be, affected by colonialism. The image of the female torso represents the body vulnerable and strong, incorporating the words as scars, yet fully present with agency over her transformability. My inspiration for the text are words by Daina Ramey Berry, Professor of History, University of Texas at Austin, which I interpret to accept the incompleteness of the emancipation process and are a call to action to reshape our systems of oppression. "During this moment, I feel that we still need to be emancipated. There are still freedoms that need to be protected. There are still laws that need to be revised. There are more people that need to be included. There are more things to achieve. There is more space for change and growth." #govote Art by @rebecamendezstudio
