LACHSA's Parent Association Board Parent Education Series: A Conversation with Father Greg Boyle Wednesday, March 24, 2021 6:30pm PDT... After seeing students take the lead in social justice work on campus this year, the Parent Association Board has invited Father Boyle of Homeboy Industries to talk about his own social justice work as a Jesuit priest, founder of Homeboy Industries and now a committee member of California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Economic and Job Recovery Task Force. Dear LACHSA Community, My tenure as Parent Association (PA) President is winding down. Before I leave PA and 9 continuous years as a LACHSA parent, I want to update you on a few of the many matters we have worked on behind the scenes. With the support you have given us, we put on the college fair early in the year, coordinated with the Foundation to increase parent participation to unprecedented levels, conducted a school-wide phone-a-thon to raise funds for the Foundat...ion, provided the entire LACHSA staff with breakfast at the beginning of the year, and distributed gifts of gratitude to the entire staff for Thanksgiving and sweet treats for Valentine's Day. More recently, unable to put on our annual year-end staff appreciation lunch, we will be sending out all of our fabulous teachers and staff customized thank you cards. Significantly, our PAB members have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make our staff feel valued, to transform PAB into a strong partner to the Foundation, and to zealously support our school’s policies. Each of our members, who are parents just like me and you, deserve our profuse gratitude. (The complete list is under the parents link on the school website.) Amidst all of this, we have not forgotten our seniors. Our senior parent representative, AmberMarie Irving, soon will send out an email to senior parents with specifics regarding what we have been working on to make sure our seniors are safely feted. As we discussed options, it was important to all of us to present a united and inclusive front in the spirit of what makes LACHSA a unique place. My worst fear was that some parents would make plans for their departments and children would be excluded if their parents did not have the proper. resources, lawns, etc. I’m grateful for the parents who have reached out to me and have been patient as we worked out a solution for a fabulous surprise Class of 2020 token gift that everyone can use long after lawn signs have been discarded. As we coordinate distribution plans, we will need lots of volunteers to get the gifts out to our kids. Thank you for your financial contributions and your support this year. There will be many challenges next year and I am sure this community will meet them head on to find creative solutions. Please take good care of the school that torpedoed my three children to bright and promising futures. To say that I am grateful to the teachers, the administration, and the three principals I’ve had the pleasure of working with is entirely inadequate yet that is humbly how I will sign out: THANK YOU LACHSA.
