LABA East Bay 30.01.2021

JCC and LABA FRIDAY - 2021.02.05 - LABA fellow: Naomie Kremer (FB at 8:05) Meet LABA East Bay fellow NAOMIE KREMER!... Painting and video are Naomie’s primary mediums and while the two practices are distinct, they are also complementary and permeable. Her paintings, though largely abstract, incorporate figurative and architectural elements as well as references to nature. They also serve as raw material for her video work, in which she overlays and manipulates source material until it’s transformed and often no longer identifiable. By ordering detail, color and scale, Naomie invites the viewer to enter this (literally or figuratively) moving world. Video is the medium for her installations and collaborations with live performance: opera, theatre, music, dance, and poetry. The fusion of video and painting occurs most concretely in her hybrid paintings in which a video is projected directly on the painting. The viewer is offered a jubilant visual experience which straddles the boundary between pictorial materiality and digital media. Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and abroad, and she has created video-based sets for opera, theater and dance including the San Francisco Opera and Margaret Jenkins Dance Company. www.naomiekremer.com
