Happy Birthday dear Lydia Takeshita. You walked away from us to have fun by yourself somewhere up there. We you.

LA Artcore 28.09.2020

We would like to take a moment to remember our founder and 40-Year long Executive Director, Lydia Takeshita, who passed last year on April 23rd, at the age of 92. Takeshita, who's lasting impact and influence continues to instill a sense of awe and infinite possibility of the human spirit. Many know her as an esteemed artist, professor, friend, thinker, and mentor, but only few know that she was an avid and voracious gardener. Her artist retreat in the hills of La Canada was ...encircled by diverse flora from roses (planted on the property's south side for maximum sunlight), lemons (readily distributed to her friends), and orchids (pictured here and Lydia's easy go-to favorite, though not in higher order than her roses). We want to thank all of our followers and friends for sticking with us through this time. We hope you and your loved ones are staying well and safe. In early January upon the selling of Lydia's property, we were able to rescue some of Lydia's orchids which were not yet in bloom. One of Lydia's best friends and current Secretary of the Board Joyce Kohl, rescued these specimens, nursed them and shared them with us in-bloom. We are indebted to Lydia's life and spirit of the essence of creativity, that we continue Artcore with our hearts full. We invite you to visit us at www.laartcore.org where a donation can be made in Lydia's name, and which ensures the continuing of her legacy of advocating artists to the public
