The California Department of Real Estate provided live update (12/30/2020) on the closure of its exam centers and offices around the state. All licensing exams scheduled through January 16, 2021 have been cancelled. There’s no date set at this time when exam centers will reopen. DRE will update its website and social media channels with reopening plans. Real Estate Licensing and examination activity In March 2020, real estate licensing exam centers were closed to help slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep California safe. And now the Department of Real Estate (DRE) is experiencing longer than normal processing timeframes. The number of applications for California Real Estate salesperson examinations administered for Fiscal Year 2019/2020 has decreased 18 percent when compared to FY 2018/19, and the number of broker examinations administered also decreased 15 percent during that same period. Due to COVID-19, the Department of Real Estate (DRE) is experiencing longer than normal processing timeframes. Quite often, staff receive calls from applicants and licensees inquiring about possible alternatives to expedite their licensing transactions.
