Over the last 20 years, KSN has participated in 14 Design-Build projects. Through this first-hand experience, we understand the value a collaborative approach can bring to the project owner and end-user. It is successful projects like the Mule Creek Infill Complex with team members, California Department of Corrections and Rehab., HENSEL PHELPS, HOK in San Francisco, Gilbane Building Company, and Kitchell, which illustrate the many benefits of Design-Build and help accelerate its adoption as a preferred method to deliver large, fast-track, complex projects by public agencies. It has been five years since the California Department of Water Resources California EcoRestore Initiative was established to advance 30,000 acres of critical habitat restoration and enhancement in the Delta, Suisun Marsh, and Yolo Bypass regions. KSN is proud to have been involved with some of these multi-benefit habitat restoration projects. Congratulations to EcoRestore for the nearly 38,500 acres projected to be restored! Did you know Sacramento River winter-run Chinook has a life-history strategy found nowhere else on the West Coast? However, their population numbers have crashed in abundance from an average of 87,000 spawning adults in the late 1960s to fewer than 200 in the early 1990s. In 2013 30% of the returning winter-run became trapped in the Colusa Basin Drain and were unable to spawn successfully. In late 2015, the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) asked Reclamation Dist...rict 108 (RD108) to take the lead in developing and constructing the Wallace Weir Fish Rescue Facility in Yolo County. This facility blocks straying fish from entering the Colusa Basin Drain from the Yolo Bypass, and allows California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) to safely collect and return the fish to Sacramento River to continue their migration. RD108 selected KSN as the prime consultant for the project, providing project management, grant administration, engineering design, and construction management and inspection for this one-of-a-kind project. With funding from State Water Contractors, and with the help of CDFW, DWR, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Central Valley Flood Protection Board, Central Valley Flood Protection Board, the RD108/KSN team took this project from concept to construction in just nine months while navigating a complex planning and regulatory review process.
