We at KSFS radio are heartbroken and outraged at the deadly violence that occurred in Atlanta on March 16, 2021. This was an example of Anti-Asian violence, something that our own community deals with on a daily basis -- even more so since the beginning of the pandemic. Most of these cases often go unreported. But now, more than ever, we must speak out about this issue. If you’re looking to help dismantle racism and bring an end to anti-Asian violence, stand up, and speak out... in your community against racism. Silence is complicity. The next woman we would like to highlight this month is Melba Pattillo Beals, an alumnus of San Francisco State University. Beals is a journalist, college educator, & author who is widely known as a member of the Little Rock Nine. At seventeen, she began selling articles to major newspapers and magazines. She has worked as a news reporter for San Francisco's public television station, KQED, and for the NBC affiliate, KRON-TV. It’s almost done! BECA students have patiently waited over 4 years for the all new SFSU Liberal and Creative Arts Building to complete construction, and now we can officially say Some BECA students will be allowed to use the new building Spring 2021 semester. Of course capacity will be limited, and not every student will have access, but still, the building is finally ready (almost).

There’s only a few managers left to highlight and this week we bring our news manager, Billy Cruz! He’s a one man team handling everything news so make sure to share your love with him! Here’s what he has to say: Wsup yall! I’m Billy Cruz and I’m the news manager for KSFS. I’ve been writing and recording radio pieces for Bay Area news outlets since I was a kid but right now my focus is on informing my fellow college students. I know news media is so messy right now, hopefully the news nerds at KSFS can make things make sense again.

The Israeli-Palestine situation is always a hot button issue at SFSU, but over the past few weeks, the situation has intensified A webinar featuring Leila Khaled was organized by the Arab/Muslim Diasporas Studies (AMED Studies) and Women/Gender Studies. Leila Khaled is a famous Palestinian refugee and member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. But this event was cancelled by Zoom! The online communication claim’s the United States’ designation of PFLP as a terrorist organization exposes Zoom to criminal liability. SFSU President Lynn Mahoney responded in a statement saying the University doesn’t believe the webinar violates any laws, but they recognize Zoom as a private company. What do y’all think? Should SFSU host Leila Khaled??

Paloma Abarca here! General Manager @ KSFS Radio. I’m looking forward to y’all seeing what KSFS Radio is about in this virtual age. If COVID-19 wasn’t a thing, I’d be traveling all around The Bay area, getting from point A to B, and enjoying every second of the experience; public transportation, headphones in, people watching, running into friends, easily going into a coffee shop.
