Traffic on highway one continues, and now the Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation introduces an online solution to ease congestion. Amy Naranjo explains w...hy commuters would take interest in the Go Santa Cruz County program and how it started.. We’re expanding this commuter program for residents throughout the entire county, whether you live or work in Santa Cruz County Whether you bike, you take transit, you carpool, and you’re doing that Covid-Safe, we want to reward you. We want to give commuters incentives to rethink their ride, to choose a more earth-friendly commute. Rewards for the countywide program so far include a free Metro bus pass for downtown Santa Cruz residents or employers, bike locker credit, and downtown dollars. Future rewards include café gift cards and other transit-oriented credits. More info on this project is available at Cruz511.Org/GoSCC.
On Friday, Central Fire District of Santa Cruz County issued a reminder to the public about April being Distracted Driving Awareness Month. The following tips ...are offered to prevent distractions on the road: Program your GPS, playlist, or electronics and finish your texts and emails. Turn Do Not Disturb on your phone and put it in a glovebox, purse, or other hidden space. Do not adjust your touchscreen-based radio or entertainment systems while driving. Schedule breaks for long distance travel. Between January of March of this year, Central Fire responded to 53 different vehicle accidents, many of which could have been avoided with a decrease in distracted drivers. In 2019, distracted driving was the cause of death for over 3,000 people nationwide. See more

In the era of social distancing, many are left searching for traditions that bring them comfort. One of those ways include buying a Christmas tree for this upcoming holiday season, and many are doing so early. Charlie Keutman, owner of a local gardening supply store shares his experience in how Christmas tree sales are doing this holiday.. They are blowing up. We are way ahead of projected sales for cut trees. Even the living trees are selling well. Everybody is shopping early, buying earlier than normal. It’s a good time of year, Keutman said. Bloomberg estimates that the cost of these have gone up by over 7-percent, and that over $2 billion will be spent this year by consumers in the U.S. for live Christmas trees.
A virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place this Thursday following the opening of Segment 7, Phase 1 of the Coastal Rail Trail in Santa Cruz. The segment runs from Natural Bridges Drive to Bay at California Streets. Meanwhile, critics of the project believe the trail should go on the tracks. Mark Mesiti-Miller, a civil engineer stated why such an option is off the table The fact is railbanking doesn’t work. It’s a legal fiction that was created by congress some 40 years ago. All it guarantees is a legal nightmare as people sue. And people along the [Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line] corridor. [] This is the future. More details about the virtual ribbon cutting taking place Thursday afternoon can be found online at CityOfSantaCruz.Com.
If all goes according to plan, Alaska Airlines will start flying non-stop from Seattle to Monterey soon. That service was originally expected to begin in June, but was de-railed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Changing weather conditions mean that fewer people are likely to be impacted by this morning's Public Safety Power Shutoff. Monterey and Sierra counties have been dropped from the list, while 3 more counties (Butte, Kern, and Plumas) have been added into the list. Those changes mean that about 100 less customers are expected to be impacted. High winds are to peak in strength during the day Monday, and possibly linger in some regions through early tomorrow.
