The CDC and FDA have officially determined that use of the Janssen/Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine should resume for people age 18+ in the US. What do we know so far about the risks vs benefits of the vaccine?

The CDC has released guidelines on relaxed precautions after vaccination for COVID-19. What does that look like in private and public settings?

Komoto Family Foundation 10.04.2021

What do we know so far about the link between the Astra-Zeneca and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID vaccines and a rare type of blood clot combined with low platelets (cerebral venous sinus thrombosis with thrombocytopenia)?

Komoto Family Foundation 23.03.2021

Today the FDA and CDC have recommended a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID vaccine while they investigate 6 cases of a rare but serious blood clotting disorder (CVST) in women under age 50 who received the vaccine. . It is important to remember that this adverse event is extremely rare less than one person in a million have experienced it. Nearly 7 million doses of the J&J vaccine have been administered, most without any serious side effects. . This is... a sign that the adverse event monitoring program is working as intended, and the recommendation to pause use of the vaccine was made out of an abundance of caution. . If you have already received the J&J vaccine within the last 3 weeks, know the warning signs of CVST: *severe* headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, and shortness of breath. If you experience these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider. . Note that *mild to moderate* headaches, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, and nausea are all common and expected side effects that usually resolve after a few days. . The CDC will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss this issue, and more information will be forthcoming. See more

Mass vaccination events are a labor of love. It takes so much time and effort to plan and execute a single successful event, let alone continued events week after week. Hear from pharmacy leadership on why they continue to provide this service for the community. #CommunityCare #COVIDVaccine #pharmacists

Happy 142nd birthday to Dr. Wu Lien-teh, inventor of the surgical face mask! His great granddaughter, Dr. Shan Woo Liu, said in an interview Just over a century ago, he helped fight off a plague in China and developed techniques such as mask-wearing, that we still use today in our battle against COVID-19. I struggle to imagine how my great-grandfather must have felt aa he cared for patients who had contracted the plague. But I also feel closer to him than ever as I urge my p...atients to practice social distancing and to wear a mask the very techniques he pioneered as he rescued China, and possibly the world, from a scourge. . #PhenomenallyAsian #AsianExcellence #AsianDoctors . repost @googledoodleofficial Today’s #googledoodleofficial celebrates the 142nd birthday of Chinese-Malaysian epidemiologist Dr. Wu Lien-teh, who invented a surgical face covering that is widely considered the precursor to the N95 mask. Born into a family of Chinese immigrants in Penang, Malaya (modern-day Malaysia) on this day in 1879, Wu went on to become the first student of Chinese descent to earn his MD from Cambridge University. Following his doctoral studies, he accepted a position as the vice director for China's Imperial Army Medical College in 1908. When an unknown epidemic afflicted north-western China in 1910, the Chinese government appointed Wu to investigate the disease, which he identified as the highly contagious pneumonic plague that spread from human to human through respiratory transmission.

#repost @nadinethornhill Over the years, I've spoken to a lot of parents who worry that having open conversations with teens about sex will encourage sexual behaviour. Having frank conversations with our teen might help increase their knowledge of bodies and sexual health.... It might help them develop communication skills they can use to negotiate consent and express their needs to their partner. It might show your teen that you're a safe person they can come to with any questions or problems. But if your teen isn't interested in having sex - I virtually guarantee that talking to us is NOT going to flip that switch. Because we're the parents. Parents are NOT a turn-on! . . . . . #BlackEducators BlackMoms #BlackParents #BlackSexEducators #FridayFunny #Health #HealthAndWellness #Kids #LGBTQ #Parents #Parenting #SexEducator #SexEducation #SexualHealth #Sexuality #SHE #SRE #Teens #TheTalk See more

#repost @sexologistmegan It’s Sexual Health Month and what better way to kick it off than to talk about a fast fix to your sexual language skills . Knowing your status is an important part of your sexual health. This is especially important when playing with others... . I often say that if you cannot talk about what you want sexually, you probably shouldn’t be doing it. This applies to your STI status as well. You should feel comfortable asking about your partner about status and disclosing your own . And in that conversation, let’s shift the language away from using the word ‘clean.’ The inverse of that is dirty and having an STI does not make you dirty . STIs are no longer the death sentence the were back in the day. Most can be cured or managed and you can continue to lead a sexually fulfilled life . Talk about your status and come up with a plan that makes you feel safe and empowered in your sexual decisions . . . . . #sexualhealthmonth #themoreyouknow #endthestigma #sexedsaves #knowyourstatus #empoweredself #sexologistmegan #sexadvice #relationshipadvice #datingadvice #asktheexpert #sexpert #normalizetesting #gettested #sexeducation #bettersexed See more

#repost @teachingoutsidethebinary ID: A personified triangle holds hands with a circle. The circle points to a square standing off to the side. A speech bubble above the circle says, Hey, is that a boy or a girl? A checklist underneath the shapes reads: -I don’t know. Does it matter?... -We don’t need to know someone’s gender & pronouns until they tell us. -We can’t tell by the way someone looks and that’s okay. -Until they tell us otherwise, we can use They to talk about them. ------------------- Shared the wrong version, friends! My apologies! Super thankful to @sylviaduckworth for collaborating with @growingwithmxt and I about my post from this past weekend! Here is a quick run through of a conversation you can have next time a kid (or even an adult) asks if someone is a boy or a girl. So many people contributed incredible comments to the original post if you’re looking for more in-depth ways to talk about the importance of not making assumptions about people’s gender. See more
