Welcome Back to in person church services! Now that we are in the Orange tier, we can safely return inside our church, while still adhering to Covid mandates a...nd protocols. For St. Peter Claver, this means that we can welcome about 350 people to each mass. Although we still have the livestream option available, we would love to see as many of you back in church. Friends, in today’s Gospel, Jesus calls the Pharisees hypocrites because they disregard God’s commandment but cling to human tradition. For instance: If some...one says to father or mother, ‘Any support you might have had from me is qorban’ (meaning, dedicated to God), you allow him to do nothing more for his father or mother. If you claim to be a person of love, but fail to honor your parents, something is seriously off. Thus the hypocrisy of the Pharisees is a disregard of love. In its essence, love is an act of the willmore precisely, the willing of the good of the other as other. To love is really to want what is good for someone else and then to act on that desire. Real love is a leaping outside of the narrow confines of my needs and desires, and an embrace of the other’s good for the other’s sake. Today is All Souls Day. Regarding our Mass of Remembrance: Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our Mass of Remembrance will be celebrated differently this year. The n...ames of our loved ones who have had funerals or burials celebrated with St. Peter Claver Parish this year will be read at the 7:30am Mass on Monday, November 2nd -The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. We are limited to 100 people inside the church, however, the Mass will be livestreamed, and can be played at any time afterwards from our Facebook page.
