Koei-Kan Karate-Do SLO 06.05.2021

... One final post-Christmas image captured this evening, shot from a distance. ... A couple weeks ago, a photographer friend of mine, dating back to Laguna Bea...ch days in the mid-'80s, asked that I post my collection of previous Pismo Pier Christmas photos a bit early this year, to provide a bit of beauty in this challenging period. I did so, but then did him one better, determining to capture a broad selection of new images for 2020. I went out on five separate evenings, starting December 14 and finishing Christmas Eve. I have posted this gallery incrementally as I've chronologically added images from each shoot. Christmas Eve's complement of nine images brings the total for this year to thirty. For those who care about such things, photos were captured on a Canon EOS 6D with a variety of vintage lenses, primarily Olympus OM Zuiko glass. Merry Christmas! See more

My old friend Bob Hansen suggested that I post my Christmas photos a bit earlier this year to bring a bit of cheer to a challenging year. So here's nearly two d...ecades of photos. I also usually wait till near Christmas to shoot the current year's images, but this year got an early start; for now I've posted to a separate album. I hope to add a few more as the day grows nearer... Many years. Different cameras. Same subject. Update: I re-edited the 12-22-19 aerials, and added more shots from 12-23 and Christmas Eve. That's all for this year. Enjoy! See more

Saturday I had the privilege of seeing three of my seito advance, two to first-degree black belt, and one to third degree. Congratulations to Mr. Jesus Flores, ...who started training with me more than eleven years ago at age six. He's the first junior in San Luis Obispo to carry his training all the way to yudansha. A great achievement for a fine young man (and future automotive engineer). Mr. Patrick Mallon also deserves kudos for achieving same rank after nine years. And our long-time assistant instructor, Mr. Mark Roberts, achieved Sandan, or third-degree black belt. A challenging test, as all Koei-Kan yudansha shiken are. My co-equal, Mr. Roy Ogden, and Sensei Brian Fisher and Sensei Carl Grisanti were there as well to participate and lend support. These latter two will be testing for third in a couple months. Plus Mr. Adam Webster, along with Mr. Meyer and Mr. Van Donge were in pre-test mode, with their shiken also pending. Thanks as always to Shihan Jack Sabat, my Sensei, for conducting a great test. Osu! See more
