Klamath River Local Organizing Committee

We are getting closer! We are planning on cutting the fire line in this coming Saturday Feb 9, 2013. All able bodied volunteers are welcome! Show up at 10:00 at the Weitchpec Transfer Station gate. Since we are community driven we have NO FUNDING for tools for our volunteers so if you can bring picks, rakes, hoes, McLeods or Pulaski axes that would be awesome. Green machines with blades would also be helpful to do a little brushing. There is lot of large scotchbroom along the south end of this parcel so a few saws running to knock that big stuff down would be a blessing too. Fire line boundaries are marked on the roadway and tagged into the brush with tape. Anyone wanting to brush during the week is more than welcome.

Did a test burn today, still a tad too moist for the piles to get going. I'm going to say real burn this weekend if the weather holds out.

This is our burn area outlined in yellow, 139 acres. The boxed yellow areas are allotments and may not be burned, pending allotment holder approval which we may not have by burn time. The burn area has had TWO previous controlled burns, one in 1999 and one in 2004 so it is not a virgin area and will be a good first burn for the KLOC!
