Hi KIPP Heartwood Families! Our Walk/Run Challenge is starting TODAY so make sure to sign up on the Nike Run Club App. We want all parents/guardians to participate so please sign up! We are asking parents and guardians to join us in a walking challenge between March 15th - April 2nd. We will be challenging students to a steps challenge later this month to promote healthy habits and want to encourage our families to also do the same. Our KFA Challenge will be tracked thro...ugh the Nike Run Club App. To be added to the challenge please add Ms. Mena, (find her as Susi Mena) as a friend on Nike Run Club App. Once you add her as a friend, she can add you to the challenge. You must download the Nike Run App and add Susi Mena as a friend. Registration for this challenge will end on March 15th, 8pm. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize winners for the most distance walked/ran in the duration of challenge and all participants who meet the 20 miles distance during the duration will be entered into a raffle for a prize! Join our college and career advisors for a 1 hour ZOOM event to learn about KIPP's unique KTC program, available only to KIPP high school students and alumni. Come hear from KIPP alumni about their educational and career journey. There will also be time for Q&A.... KIPP Through College (KTC) is a part of the broader KIPP approach that aims to prepare students to identify their passion, purpose, and plan for how to thrive in college, shape the future, and positively impact the world. Our vision is for all students to have the access, skills and resources to navigate through college or take on the workforce. The 8th grade team would like to invite all families to join us this Friday, January 13th for our Virtual Semester Awards Ceremony taking place on zoom from 8:30-8:50am. This award ceremony recognizes our students for their dedication and efforts in the first semester. We will be recognizing students with Honor Roll, Perfect Attendance and spirit awards on this day. We encourage families to watch with their students or join us here for this event, we will also be recording and sharing the ceremony for families that are unable to attend. Hope to see you there! Back to School Night has always been an exciting evening where our teachers open up their classroom to introduce themselves, get to know families and share their class goals for the year. However, due to Covid-19, we will be hosting a Virtual Back to School Night this year! Please join us on Friday, September 11th at 4:00pm for Virtual Back to School Night! Our grade levels will be hosting this event to celebrate the start of the school year, get to know our families and learn more about each teacher and their class. Our grade level teams are excited to share goals for the year and answer questions you may have. Please find the link to your student's grade level in your emails and your student's email. We recommend that you login to Zoom using your student’s Chromebook and Zoom account to count for your attendance more easily.

All students need to log in to Google Classroom and complete assignments to receive full credit.

Amongst all the turmoil we are facing these days, there is something positive to celebrate with our school community. 14 of our girls have been accepted to The Society of Women Engineers - Get Science, Engineering and Technology (SWE - GetSET) program. Heartwood has historically sent large numbers of our girls to this program, but this is our best year yet! Every year, the program accepts 25 girls from N. California schools. This year our girls make up more than 50% of this year's cohort. We could not be prouder of our 14 rising 9th graders who will participate in this prestigious program!

Yesterday we were able to hold one last celebration for our graduating class of 2024! The promoted class picked up certificates, 8th grade gift and had the opportunity to take a picture with their family. Congrats once again!
