Haven’t been on here recently but have to share this. My grandpa has been in a assisted living for the past 6 months. He has been able to get out for one weeken...d this whole time he has been there since March because of this covid issue, now they are on lockdown again and who knows for how long. I went to go visit him Friday, he met me at the door as he saw me walking up. We started talking and I realized he didn’t have his hearing aids in. I said grandpa why don’t you go to your room and get your hearing aids and come back. So he went up came down comes out the elevator on a dead run with a laundry basket full of all his belongings running towards me with two staff members right behind him as he’s wanting to get out and LEAVE. I don’t even have the words to describe how I felt watching this. I have been with this man almost every day for 20 years and he was just wanting to get out of there. We calmed him down and went outside for a walk and couldn’t help myself, I said grandpa you see my truck as we were slowly walking, we get close to it you run and get in we are getting the hell out of here. I felt bad for the girl working as I backed out put it in drive I think she read my lips as I said he’s coming with me! It was seriously like the dukes of hazzard as we had the hammer down headed south of town to hit a country road. The manager called the county sheriff on me but I could have cared less. He was so happy just to be with me riding around in my truck, we went and looked at fields, talked about cows, knowing they called the police I didn’t care I brought him to my house for a bit and when we got out my daughter ran to him for a hug. I’m glad I got a picture of it. What is happening with these care homes not letting the residents out to live what life they have left is the most horrible thing I have ever witnessed in my life!!!! It is not their fault, I know with covid they have to protect everyone but my gosh this is awful what these people are going threw. They are literally in jail!!!! People can come in to visit but you can’t take them out. What kind of a life is that! I don’t know what the answer is but hopefully they have a faster few minute test, and if they do these places need to be the first ones to get them so if and when they let their residents in and out they can test them quickly and stop all this nonsense. He is a veteran for god sakes, we are in the land of the free, but these people have literally lost their freedom!! People want to complain about school or sports, they have no idea what these people are going threw! My grandpa got a few hours of being outside and with his family and got to see the crops, come ten o’clock at night the cops showed up at my house wanting to know where he was at. Make a long story short I had to go pick him up from my dads with a police car behind me, said sorry grandpa but have to go back even though I don’t want you to. Cop followed me the whole way and I dropped him off and shook his hand with both of us holding back tears. Anyone who knows my grandpa knows the kind of person he is, and him and everyone in these places does not deserve this, it is horrible. I ask everyone to share this, not just for my grandpa but for everyone’s family members who are going threw this. It has to stop! There has got to be something that can be done to end this nonsense.
