Acupuncture and Low Back Pain Of the many persons who seek out Acupuncture for pain management, the vast majority are for pain in the back and specifically pain in the lower back. In many cases Acupuncture is able to offer much-needed relief. In dealing with any pain along the back, the location and trajectory of the pain is first clearly identified. Once this is done, it can be determined which pathway the pain falls on. Very thin acupuncture needles are then gently inserted... at Acupuncture points local to the area of pain. The common causes of Low Back Pain. - A strain of a muscle or ligament: can be brought on by physical strain or injury. - Disc herniation is usually due to age related degeneration of the annulus fibrosus (fibrous ring around the intervertebral disc), although trauma, lifting injuries, or straining have been implicated. - Spondylosis: When the space between two adjacent vertebrae narrows, compression of a nerve root emerging from the spinal cord may result in radiculopathy (sensory and motor disturbances, such as severe pain in the neck, shoulder, arm, back, and/or leg, accompanied by muscle weakness). - Sciatica: is a set of symptoms including pain caused by general compression or irritation of one of five spinal nerve roots of each sciatic nerveor by compression or irritation of the left or right or both sciatic nerves. - Arthritis: this may cause narrowing of the space through which the spinal cord passes. - Skeletal abnormalities: such as scoliosis: a medical condition in which a person's spine is curved from side to side. - Osteoporosis: causes brittle bones, which, in turn, may lead to compression fractures of the bones of the spine. Acupuncture Treatment: The number of acupuncture treatments needed depends on the severity of the condition. Improvement is usually noticed within the first two weeks of treatment, which may be done once or twice weekly, usually accompanying a prescription for rest, stretching and strengthening exercises. Medicinal Herbs may be given such as Corydalis which manages pain physiologicly in the same way as Opiate type drugs. The good news is that Corydalis is not at all addictive. Acupuncture can heal the abovementioned conditions for the long term but their modus operandi is different when you take a pain killer that begins to work within an hour but merely mask the pain and do not treat the causative factors. Acupuncture’s focus is the alleviation of pain and treating the cause of the pain and discomfort.

Corydalis: Non-Addictive Pain Control Herbal Medicine I have to say that the herbal granules of Corydalis are really wonderful. Previously my wife, Angel, had low back pain and I gave her a dose of Corydalis and the next morning she was pain free. Yesterday I had low back pain and a touch of Sciatica.
