This week's Wacky Wednesday is about clutter, everyone's worst nightmare. Most of us are guilty of it, including my wife and I. One of the first things agents d...o when listing a home is to ask the home owner to remove excess items. Too much clutter makes the home look smaller and prospective buyers see this and think that if they bought the home it will be too small for them. Less clutter makes the home bigger looking, more inviting and makes buyers imagine themselves living this clutter free life. I'm a pack-rat, so clutter is my middle name, but I've learned to keep clutter at bay with organization. My bookshelves are organized, the kitchen, and my bedroom drawers. But clutter has defeated me at my desk. Papers are everywhere. Chaos reigns. I'm still working on it. Recently I learned some tips to help remove clutter. My wife has been watching a show on Netflix called Tidying Up with Marie Kondo. The show starts out by telling clutter riddled families to first pile all their clothes on their bed. My wife did it yesterday. We had a mountain on our bed. The next step is to get rid of clothes that don't spark joy. But before you do this, you thank the clothing for giving you use. My wife had a lot of thanking to do, as she filled up four trash bags of clothes. I was especially impressed with the folding technique my wife learned. I love to fold, after working at JCPenney during my youth. The clothes are tri-folded and placed standing up in rows to better see the clothes you have. Later today I'm going to do the same thing, especially the awesome folding technique. Kondo also talks about defeating clutter in the kitchen, and throughout the house. Let's all try and tackle the dreaded clutter to make our house inviting to prospective buyers or visiting guests. See more

My Marvelous Monday post this week is about two adventures on Saturday morning. The first was a trip to the Farmer's Market in Visalia. The second was a trip to... the Kaweah Oaks Preserve. The vibrant colors of the locally grown fruits and vegetables at the Farmer's Market made my mouth water. If you don't know, the market takes place in the parking lot in front of Sears, corner of Caldwell Ave. and Mooney Blvd., on Saturday mornings from 8-11:30. My family bought strawberries and radishes. I was in awe of the giant beets. Everything looked so fresh and natural. Besides the yummy fruits and veggies, local food and drink vendors, along with local artists' creations were available. From there we went to the Kaweah Oaks Preserve, located on Road 182, just before the Exeter exit. If you take Highway 198 east towards Exeter you will turn left [north] on Road 182. You will drive on 182 for a short time. The turnoff for the preserve is on the left [west side]. You then park and walk on a trail to the preserve. Just watch out for cow poop and an occasional grazing cow on the path to the preserve. My daughter's shoes found the poop and my wife was shocked by the cows. But the journey through a poop mine field and past two large cows was well worth it. My family had a fun time visiting with nature. My son loved climbing around and hunting for sticks. My daughter enjoyed the sites and sounds all around us. The adventure was peaceful and fun. The best part was that it wasn't a long drive. With twins that is very important. Took about 15 minutes from our house. See more

Wow! That's the word that best described today's MLS Tour. Two homes stood out for me on tour. To be honest I didn't get to see all the homes on tour. We had 14. Yes, 14! But the ones I did see impressed me. On the drive out to the home at 611 N. Comstock Ct., located in the north-east part of Visalia, I was shocked when I turned off Houston onto Comstock Ct. The street was lined with gorgeous homes. The street was a hidden gem. As I cruised through this majestic land I fou...nd a treasure awaiting at the end [cul-de-sac]. The tour listing states that the home is craftsman mixed with Mid Century Modern. That was definitely true. The kitchen and bathrooms were modernized, but at the same time the home had a country feel, like barn doors entering the bedroom and wood beams as you enter the house. A unique twist that caught my eye was garage-door looking feature attached to the living room ceiling. An entire windowed wall in the living room can be raised to allow an open-air concept. It reminded me of the restaurants and hotels in Hawaii that were open to the outside. A barbecue and chairs sat outside of the roll-up living room wall. A large pool was also situated in a spacious backyard. This house is a must see. Another must see was at 28844 Road 168. This five bedroom, four bath home sits on 2.24 acres, nestled between a walnut grove, which is part of the property. The pool caught my eye. Woods and a creek were the backdrop of this pool. What a great place to relax after a hard day at work. The home also has a converted garage, which could be used as a mother-in-law suite, a detached workshop and RV covered parking. Call me at 799-8785 if you are interested in me showing you one of these homes or any other home you are interested in. See more
