Wai On Lee was born in Hong Kong, to his Mother Chui Ha Lee and Father Chung Chun Lee, on September 30, 1962. Wai was a high school graduate and moved to the United States, where he made his home here in Modoc County. Many people remember his smiling face from the King Wah restaurant on highway 299 In Alturas. Wai spent 39 years as the owner of King Wah. Wai also was an avid fisherman and that passion for being around the water and outdoors led him to being hired to the Modoc... County Water Master position, where he made many long lasting friendships over his 11 years spent inside the water master office 7 of which were spent as the Modoc County Water Master. If Wai wasn’t in the Restaurant, on the river, or in the office he could often be found at the old bowling alley, where he spared no one when challenged to a game on the lanes. Wai left us here on earth on the early morning of March 23, 2021 after a long battle with cancer. He did not lose to cancer, he beat cancer every single day by how he lived, the way he lived, and the manner in which he lived. We will all miss Wai, but we will live on for him throughout our daily lives, because that is what Wai would have wanted. Not to be sad, not to be upset, he would want you, me, and all of us, to grab a fishing pole, find a family member or friend and go find a lake, stream or river bait a hook and get lost in the moment of being alive and outdoors, or maybe he would have wanted us to enjoy a good conversation while gathering around a dinner table with great food and drinks. Wai will always be there with us. Always. Wai was survived by his son Justin and Daughter Cindy Lee. There will be a Community remembrance at Kerr mortuary at 3pm on Wednesday March 31, 2021 followed by a celebration of life at 5pm at the Alturas Elks Lodge, this event will be open to the public.
