The Mina Group has won permission to make minor exterior changes to The Bungalow Kitchen, its planned Main Street restaurant but not before two Tiburon Design Review Board members sounded off on their disappointment with the building’s design and color scheme. The board at its April 15 meeting voted 3-0 to approve the request from the Mina Group and landlord ACV Argo Tiburon LP to move an exterior wall; relocate a rear stairway to the upper patio; partially replace a retrac...table awning with a fixed awning; and add a new windscreen with windows to the upper floor of the restaurant, which is currently under construction at 5 Main St. in the former Guaymas restaurant space and targeted to open in summer. When originally approved in 2018, the board questioned only the shade of bright apple yellow-green chosen for the exterior and asked the staff to work with the applicants to select a more muted green. Staff signed off on a beige-and-brown palette instead, which appeared to surprise several board members, who variously called it a missed opportunity to enhance the maritime character of our community," "disappointing," "banal" and "putting a lipstick on a pig."
