Wildfires in California this year were an added challenge to our Tahoe Rim Trail backpacking trip. The smoke-filled air made it more difficult to breathe. It became a norm to not be able to see very far. On day 4, we arrived at Lake of The Woods after an 18+ mile day of backpacking. Taking a dip in the cool lake water was a huge relief. Just got back from backpacking the Rae Lakes Loop in Kings Canyon National Park. Day 2 was our longest day where we gained 4000 ft of elevation. We arrived at Rae Lakes as the sun was starting to set, so I quickly scrambled up rocks to find the right angle to watch the sun set over the land bridge between Middle and Lower Rae Lakes. The orange is a reflection off the alpenglow of Black Mountain.
