Kellogg University Art Gallery 20.05.2021

We are excited to announce the newly re-launched The Artists Challenge for 2021. As you might imagine, most cultural sites, galleries, and museums' doors are now closed across the country and the world...we creatives need to be flexible and adapt, find ways to connect, engage, create and express visually in new virtual ways that just involve technology and sound to communicate and respond. We hope artists will video-record themselves working, sharing their processes and n...ew work in exciting and new ways! We must see this as an opportunity to challenge ourselves creatively and help each other be seen, engaged, and noticed. We challenge all artists, designers, incl. architects, landscape architects, graphic and fine, to share their creative work on-line. Join #TheArtistsChallenge2021! To participate, type or copy/paste our hashtag #TheArtistsChallenge2021 into your text description or photo caption anytime you post artwork on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and we'll feature you on our curated social media platforms. Again, be sure to include our hashtag #TheArtistsChallenge2021 in the text of your post for us to highlight your work on our page! Don't forget to share on your story, and we look forward to seeing you in our 2021 posts! Forensic Architecture, still from Triple Chaser, 2019. Image credit: Forensic Architecture, Praxis Films. IN TWO WEEKS! Join us for another PLATFORM event: "A lecture by Eyal Weizman, founder of Forensic Architecture" November 12, 2020 at noon via Zoom Webinar.... rb.gy/cag52k (IG: Link in our Bio) Background is composed of a series of a graphic, grid-like patterns of geometric shapes (squares and rectangles) in primary colors of blue, red and yellow, plus black and white, similar to a Mondrian painting in style. Overlayed in black, white and shades of grey are a series of synthetically-generated images of exploded tear gas grenade canisters used to disburse immigrants at the US/Mexican border in November 2018. When US border agents fired tear gas grenades at civilians in November 2018, photographs showed that many of those grenades were manufactured by the Safariland Group, one of the world’s major manufacturers of so-called ‘less-lethal munitions’. The Safariland Group is owned by Warren B. Kanders, the vice chair of the board of trustees of the Whitney Museum of American Art. Whereas the export of military equipment from the US is a matter of public record, the sale and export of tear gas is not. As a result, it is only when images of tear gas canisters appear online that monitoring organizations and the public can know where they have been sold, and who is using them. But this kind of manual research is laborious, and time-consuming. Automating any part of that process could be hugely beneficial to human rights monitors, and the pursuit of corporate accountability in the global arms trade. https://forensic-architecture.org/inves/cv-in-triple-chaser https://forensic-architecture.org/investigati/triple-chaser To see more of Foresnic Architecture's work: https://forensic-architecture.org/
