Here's to 2021 bringing...the remembrance of how important love, connection and human touch are for all of us; a greater sense of unity, regardless of political, religious, spiritual, racial, ideological or philosophical differences; and a never-before-seen rampant increase in humankindness to one another, our planet and all the beings living on it.

AUTHOR (or) SPEAKER friends: I'm planning to give away a content-rich live session in a few weeks. Would you rather get help with BOOK MARKETING (how to sell more copies of your book) or PLATFORM BUILDING (how to build your brand to sell more copies of your book/speeches/courses/widgets/get more consulting clients/media/etc.)? Thanks in advance for sharing your opinion. And if you'd like to attend, just PM me with your email address and I'll make sure you get an invite.

One valuable way to market yourself/your book (even before it's printed, even before it's acquired by a publisher) is to target articles to specific publications that serve your likely audiences.

Why Literary Agents Reject Books: Since I re-opened our query portal to new authors last week, I figured that I should set out the most common reasons ANY agency rejects nonfiction projects: 1. The idea has been done 1K times and this author doesn't seem to have anything new to say.... 2. The author has no credentials and/or no platform. No one knows s/he exists OR the credentials are meaningless. Ex. "I invented a diet and lost 24 lbs. fast" but no other success stories, no medical credentials, no online or offline presence (workshops, media, followers, etc.) 3. The book was self-published and completely, utterly failed and all the author has is a limp excuse for why. Those are our top 3 reasons for rejection. Note that ALL of them can be overcome with some effort and intelligence, but most people don't want to hear that. They believe that just getting Simon & Schuster to publish them will solve every problem. It doesn't work like that!

Warning to other small businesspeople: Do not work with the company Flowz! Shoddy business practices and dreadful customer service. I got burned, so I'm warning you. This falls under "Too good to be true", unfortunately.

What book has touched you most in this very strange year-to-date?

I'm thinking about doing a complimentary webinar on how to market your book during a crisis. Would this interest you? If so, PM me back and I'll make sure someone sends you the sign-up link. This will be for anyone whose **NONFICTION** book was published or self-published in any format within the last 5 years OR a book that will be published in the next 12 months.

So VERY proud and pleased for our awesome client Kim Chestney! This is a fabulous book, because Kim not only teaches individuals, but makes her living helping COMPANIES learn how to access intuition in their R&D departments. Highly recommended.

Seems like the coronavirus may be drawing to an end someday. Maybe the worst is over. At least, we all hope so! How will having survived this change the way you write?

If you are writing a nonfiction book or plan to do so: 1. Start with a proposal because it will help you determine IF your book will sell to a publisher (or even to the public) AND it is the mandatory document all agents and publishers will require anyway. 2. DO NOT write the book first, saying "It helps me to think it through." It's a HUGE waste of time and makes it harder to sell and harder to edit. ... 3. DO prepare your future buyers by getting started building your platform TODAY. There's no time to waste! People need to be drawn to you and your content starting NOW, not a year from now or more (when the book releases). Hope this resolves some questions.
