Caitlyn Jenner, the Olympic gold medalist with a reality-show family, announced Friday that she will run for governor of California. The state's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom, is likely to face a recall election this year.

The Marshall Project and NPR have found that in at least 36 states and Washington, D.C., state foster care agencies comb through their case files to find kids entitled to these benefits, then apply to Social Security to become each child's financial representative, a process permitted by federal regulations. Once approved, the agencies take the money, almost always without notifying the children, their loved ones or lawyers.

The roadway is opening more than two months ahead of schedule. Caltrans said it’s able to reopen the road ahead of schedule because of good collaboration, hard work and favorable weather.

SLO County Administrative Office Analyst Kristin Eriksson said some of the funding will be used to launch the office’s redistricting website in May, which will include a public-facing mapping tool that will allow community members to submit suggestions and manipulate maps for possible districts. Eriksson said the funding will also pay for pre-census data analysis, auditing of the district maps, targeted public outreach and translation services at public hearings.

Mastalir said the vaccine will be optional for military members, but noted the policy could change.
