Those attempting to record a document may see a dramatic increase in fees beginning in 2018 California Senate Bill 2, recently passed by the state legislature, imposes a $75 affordable housing surcharge on various documents, with a maximum increase of $225 for related transactions. The Recorder’s Office is currently working on the implementation of the new law, which will take effect starting on January 1, 2018.
