Did you know the use of marigolds dates back to the Aztecs, who used marigolds in a festival dedicated to a goddess whose role was to guard the dead's bones. The Aztecs considered marigolds to be a sacred flower. Today marigolds with their vibrant colors, and pungent smell are used in the Dia de Los Muertos celebrations to guide the spirits of returning ancestors to their altars. Today we are wishing a happy and well earned retirement to Artemio! Artemio worked for Kitayama Brothers for 37 years and retired last Friday as our Gerbera and Gardenia production manager! We hope he has had an excellent first day of retirement today, he certainly earned it!

It seems like late summer, and early fall arrangements have to have some sunflower in them. There are no better sunflowers in the world than those grown in Santa Cruz County if we do say so ourselves! We not only have large and mini sunflowers in our coolers, but we also have Chocolate and teddy bear varieties.

We all know and love Seeded Eucalyptus, and we have plenty of this staple green in our coolers. Our Seeded Euc is locally grown and a great backdrop for vibrant or pastel arrangements!

Scabiosa, or scoops as we like to call them! These beautiful puffs of flowers come in perennial and annual varieties and Burgundy, pink, white, and lavender. The combination of colors and styles can bring a great mix to your designs!

We have our Gerberas and Mini Gerbera Daisies on bulk specials this week! Gerberas are like the crayons of the cut flower world grab the right one out of the box to add color to your masterpiece!

It can be hard to find truly blue-colored flowers; Cornflower is one of the few blue flowers that you can use to stretch the color palette you are working with. Traditionally Cornflower was worn by young men who were in love!

Dahlia season is in full swing, and we have beautiful locally grown dahlias in an assortment of colors filling up our coolers. Height, texture, and greenery are bountiful in the Bells of Ireland. While these are available just about year-round, our growing partners are cutting tons of these right luscious green stems right now. Give these a look in the greens section of your price sheet.

Tansy Yarrow is a great filler flower, who's flat tops bring texture and color to arrangements. We have plenty of locally grown tansy yarrow in our coolers ready to debut your shops!

When the shelter-in-place orders came through back in March we had to immediately adjust our production forecast to account for operating at a minimum viable capacity. This had a major effect on our production levels 3 months later, especially for our oriental and asiatic lilies. We are just now finally nearing normal seasonal production of many of our flowers including our asiatic lilies. If you have been searching for lilies we are staring to see many more in the greenhouses. Give us a call!

New to our coolers this week, Marigolds!

Happy Friday from our Marketing Manager's favorite KB grown flower, the piccolini! These little mini Gerberas have a personality all to themselves! Jasen thinks a bunch of these is like a box of tiny cookies!

We don't have these fire poppies in our coolers, but you can find them through California! They are native to California and grow after a fire, and are an amazing symbol of resilience. These bi-color pomponi Gerberas are the some of the sassiest and classiest flowers in the greenhouses! If you watched our American Grown Flower video you know Farai loves Sassy and Classy flowers! Link in bio if you haven't seen the video!

Did you know that if you pull the pedals off of the bottom of the snapdragons that the petals above will start to bloom even after they are cut?
