We are so happy and excited to welcome Daniel "Primo" Sanelli, a clinical nutritionist, to our group! "Daniel Sanelli, M.Sc., aka Primo Health Coach, is a Clinical Nutritionist with a functional nutrition practice in San Francisco, CA. My approach is science based and integrative. I completed the Nutrition Educator program at Bauman college and I now have a Master's of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, CT. I perform complete health assessments usin...g written questionnaires, functional blood chemistry analysis, genetic testing and other forms of identifying nutritional markers to design a personalized action plan that utilizes a whole foods diet along with smart nutrient supplementation to support the body in its natural healing processes. Recommendations are exclusively designed for the individual taking into account his or her unique needs, preferences and biochemistry, while maintaining the principles of functional nutrition." Nutrition is the cornerstone of health and healing. We are so gratified to have a well-educated and experienced guide for our patients! Welcome, Primo! www.primohealthcoach.com

Hypomagnesemia is something we have found to be increasingly prevalent in chronic myofascial pain; and as more and more people use proton-pump inhibitors, it is helpful to supplement with magnesium CHLORIDE, which isn't affected by stomach acid levels, remaining viable for absorption in the intestine. I actually first learned about this from Quora's own Steve Harris, MD!(https://www.quora.com/Should-I-take-magne//Steve-Harris-33). I have had several MDs and nutritionists verify that this is the form that must be taken to correct Mg levels when long-term PPI use is a factor. Check out our new blog post, Chronic pain, depression, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue all seem to feed off each other but which came first? What is the root of this debilitation?, on the Myofascial Pain Solutions website! This is a difficult question to answer. The etiology of each of these chronic illnesses remains, alas, a mystery that we have yet to conclusively solve. That being said, it is very important that we solve them. Why? Because baby-boomers (a very large portion of the American population) are...

http://relief.news/a-journalist-turned-patient-writes-book/ This was a good interview with the Pain Research Forum about Judy Foreman, author of "A Nation In Pain": http://www.amazon.com/Nation-Pain-Healing-Big//ref=sr_1_1 I found this book quite illuminating, particularly for the up-to-date statistics and political assessment of the problems facing pain management (and chronic pain patients, as a result), which constitute the bulk of the book... . My only two beefs were that, I wish she would have stopped at the "research" end of things; but she goes on to make personal recommendations for therapy options, some of which were poorly researched. For instance, trigger point therapy warranted one sentence: " Trigger-point therapy didn't work at all for me. I received two treatments, and it made no difference" (paraphrased). Huh?? Maybe one needs to a bit of more thorough research than that before categorically recommending or condemning an entire medical approach, right? Also, she goes into an entire chapter on "magnet therapy". Mmm. Well, I liked the book, and I liked the interview; hope you do too! See more

Last Friday, all of us had a really lovely evening at the clinic at our First "Open House" party. Some of our favorite doctors and our pharmacist at Mission Medical Building and our neighborhood came and helped us celebrate! I had a wonderful time talking with Brian Balbon, DC, Barbara Berkeley, DC, Peter Cruz, PharmD, and Jules Steimnitz, MD, among others. We have a lucky and warm community to work with! I would like to send a huge "thank you" to all of the practitioners who came and made it such a great night. Thatcher Hayward (CMT) took this wonderful picture of us: (from left to right, Denise Rodriguez, Kate Simmons, Kara Romanko, Marcia Romero, Thatcher Hayward). Elena Kotenkova was also there. I'm already looking forward to the next party!
