My client's competitor bought 140 5-star reviews. It's my job now to prove to Google they are fake. So I took about 20 of them and put them in a spreadsheet to show that these fake reviewers are reviewing the same businesses, sometimes in many countries around the world. What should happen is all these reviewers (most of them are local guides - yes, you can fake your way to that distinction) will be removed, as will all their reviews, and all the businesses that hired them will get penalized. Please don't buy fake reviews. And please be very careful who you hire to do your Local SEO. You can get penalized too. Let's put the "Wix is bad for SEO" myth to rest because it's not. I would never offer to build a site in Wix for a client because I can do it much faster and better with more flexibility in Wordpress, but if someone wanted to do it themselves, I could recommend Wix. I took on a client who had a Wix site. I had to redesign it for conversions and I didn't find it easy at all. There is definitely a learning curve - at least for what I was trying to do. And there are some bugs I... had to report, but support was responsive and fixed 2 out of the 3. If you don't know how to do something, IF YOU CAN FIND THEIR PHONE NUMBER, you can call, leave a message and they call you RIGHT BACK. Wix, Weebly and Squarespace really got their start because Wordpress was difficult, but Wordpress now has Builder options (I'm not talking about their built-in Gutenberg) that make it really easy to build sites in now. I actually found Wix difficult in comparison. So it's hard to make a case for Wix in my opinion, but according to this webinar, looks like they are committed to being the best out there for DIY web builders. Nice to see. Google has released a new tool for managing your reviews. I'm not too thrilled because Google has still not gotten good at removing fake reviews, and trust me, there are a lot of those in Google. Short summary for you small businesses is what I've been saying all along. No need to fill your website with a bunch of filler content for content sake. Write for your audience and give them what they need and want as only you, the expert, can because you have the answers, right?
