I just heard of the passing of Mike Gardner. I didn't know Mike well personally, but I knew his reputation in the Sacramento valley area music community. He was not only a skilled craftsman, but a wealth of knowledge. He also wasn't shy about sharing that knowledge to anyone who was genuinely interested. He will be greatly missed, and I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Gardner family, as well as the @skipsmusic family.

This one had a lot of sentimental value to the client, so that always makes me enjoy the process of caring for the instrument even more. It was in a little rough shape when it came in, but nothing over the top. I started with completely disassembling the bridge and placing the parts in the ionic bath. After it was all cleaned up, I dried off all of the parts, oiled up what needed oil, and reassembled the bridge with the supplied replacement parts brought in by the client. I u...sed as many original parts as possible. After that was done, I replaced the pickups with some @seymourduncanpickups #blackwinterpickups as requested. From there, it was time for a #fretmill and a #setup This beauty is miles apart from the shape when it came in. Well, both volume pots had met their limit. One had a broken shaft, and the other was just skipping right past the zero mark back to 10. That won't do. So, we went ahead and moved this old @emgpickups harness out to make way for the modern harness. I'll follow up this post with another one to showcase just how gorgeous this road warrior guitar really is. This @gibsonguitar #sgbass came in with a broken headstock. But, don't worry, I told the client that with a broken headstock, it's "Never Really Over". While the headstock was resting under clamps, I opened up the control cavity, because it had a loose pickup ground wire. I went ahead and repaired that, while also pulling out that tiny 0.033uf capacitor. I opted to replace it with a vintage, new old stock 0.05uf #centralab "pancake" capacitor. I accidentally singed one of the... ground wire sleeves. I guess there was too much "Firework". (That one was a stretch...still leaving it there.) After the glue up was cured, and cleaned up, it was "Walking on Air" again. A big thank you to @trev_pants of @vistakicks for bringing this beauty in. It is ready for touring again, as soon as we're all given the green light to do so.
