The Spring Release Offering is now OPEN for a limited time! Mailing list members, go check your email for a direct link to your allocation. The 2019 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is ready for you. To delve into how we made the new wines and what they taste like, find winemaker Alex Kanzler’s complete notes at www.kanzler.com/wines Our family really values your appreciation of small, independent wineries and traditional craftsmanship. And we’re so glad to share this gorgeous new vintage with you.
It’s so much more than pressing grapes and tasting from barrels. We put this little video together to bring you into the cellar with us, right up close to some lesser-known details of winemaking. For the full sensory experience, why not sip some Pinot while you watch. And be sure you’re on our mailing list for access to the Spring Release in March: https://kanzlervineyards.com/register/ https://vimeo.com/494216705

That was fast. We opened the Fall Release 72 hours ago, and two out of three Pinot Noirs are already sold outand we're now down to less than 20 cases of the Estate Reserve (our favorite, which we make a little more of). We know some of you like to swoop in at the last minute. So a gentle reminder... if you're hoping to take home the new 2018 Kanzler Vineyard Estate Reserve this year, move quickly via your allocation email or reach out to Breauna Kanzler at [email protected] We can't wait to get you some fresh Pinot! And if all of this is news to you, please do join our List at www.kanzler.com/register to start getting in on biannual releases of small-lot, homegrown, handcrafted wines from Sebastopol.
It was another misty morning here. The estate is at 10-20% veraison now, and it’s taken a week or 10 days to get that much color. But temps are supposed to get into the 90s through Sunday, so we could suddenly be at over 50% in three days. As usual, we’re tracking behind the rest of the Russian River Valley thanks to our cooler location.
The early growing season, from bud break at the estate vineytard to tasting last year's harvest still in barrel.
Great to be named among 18 Pinot Noir-focused wineries in Wine Spectator’s 50 Top Sonoma Producers. And there’s more Kanzler on the list actually Kosta Browne and Lynmar Estate are highlighted with their beautiful bottlings of our estate fruit. Here’s a good snippet from the write up. Note that our estate vineyard falls within both the Russian River and Sonoma Coast appellations. (Our neighborhood is nicknamed the Sebastopol Hills.) Russian River Valley is also the c...radle of modern California Pinot Noir. Pinots from Russian River are rich with red berry and cherry flavors, backed by plentiful acidity and firm tannins. Many have details of smoke and earth, with vibrant, spicy accents lending complexity. Versions from the Sonoma Coast appellation balance richness with elegance. Those from vineyards closest to the Pacific typically show more tannins, dried fruit character and vibrant acidity than those from interior locations, where wines feature riper, more concentrated flavors and plusher textures. We look forward to seeing you.
Today’s @wine_spectator Insider Weekly named the latest vintage of the Walker Station Vineyard one of seven exciting new California Chardonnays. We loved how this wine came out, so it’s nice when a blind tasting concurs. A minerally style, with crunchy acidity backing the concentrated pear and green apple flavors, featuring accents of dried tarragon. Lemon curd notes show on the fresh, focused finish. Drink now through 2025. 92 points Kim Marcus, Wine Spectator We farm this tiny vineyard in the Green Valley micro-region of the Russian River Valley. The clone is Montrachet and the soil is Goldridge. Spring buyers, you’ll find more details in the newsletter that arrived with your wine. Tasting notes and winemaking techniques are also at www.kanzlervineyards.com/wines
Alex had a rough few nights in the vineyard last week taking care of frost protection. Those clear pretty days are more troublesome than they look (see video). Now we have rain and a little reprieve.
Alex checking in with you all from Walker Station Vineyard in Green Valley. Watch through to the end and you’ll see why we remove suckers while the growth is new and tenderyet still leave more clusters (for now) than we ultimately want the vine to support. All of which has a big impact on your glass of wine. #farming #winelife #wine #familybusiness #sonomacounty
