Vijayadasami has been different this year. Instead of studio filled gatherings, live performances in person, salangai poojai celebrated and new students initiated among everyone watching, we did Vijayadasami online through zoom, performances through youtube and Salangai Pooja and initiation one by one. No matter what our method of celebration was, it was grand still with our Vijayadasami filled with speeches and cards and gifts that kept coming from our dear students. It was ...so heartwarming to see students finding their own ways of contacting and showing their love and respect to their Gurus. So touched and overwhelmed with all the love. Whether be it online or in person my dear students my love and blessings are always with you. Stay healthy and safe. That is important during these trying times. We will continue to learn and dance no matter what the circumstances are. Here are some photos taken over these past few days celebrating Salangai Poojai and Vijayadasami with my dear students See more

Here is a write up by Aditi about her journey in Kalanityam so far ...thanks for making it part of her life and for the enjoyment she gets from this art form ! ...- Kaushik Srinivasan Dance is my Life: I’ve been learning Bharatanatyam under the guidance of Selvi Aunty for more than 7 years and I’ve learned so much along the way. My journey in Kalanityam has been so incredible, momentous, and unforgettable. This comes from the wonderful gurus, the strong bonds and friendships, and the love for dance. My guru, Selvi Pragasam builds the passion for dance in all of her students and motivates us to do our best in everything. She is understanding, loving, compassionate, and such a huge inspiration and role model for all of us. Selvi Aunty and Lavi Aunty teach us not only how to dance, but to enjoy the beauty of the artform. All the amazing performances and productions make the best of memories and it’s such a wonderful experience to be a part of the Kalanityam family. Selvi Aunty taught me how to dance from my heart and that if you work hard to do something you’re passionate about, you can do anything. She also taught me that abhinaya cannot be taught, it has to be felt. Throughout my journey in this prestigious school, I’ve learned how to express myself through dance. I was always a shy person who would be scared before every performance, but I learned that all I had to do was enjoy the dance and to just flow with the music. As I started performing more and more, that introversion started to fade away. Everything about this school is absolutely astonishing such as the relationships that you build with everyone and how everybody is so open and joyful. You make lifelong friendships here at Kalanityam and meet such kind, fun, and caring people that you know will always be there for you. Towards the beginning of 6th grade I started helping out in the adavu classes as well. Seeing the little kids and having all of that positivity and enthusiasm around me just made me feel so delighted. Dance is my life, it means everything to me and that won’t ever change. I practice dance daily and it’s something that I have a deep passion for. I can’t thank Selvi Aunty enough for everything that she has done for me and for teaching me this beautiful artform. Kalanityam is such a phenomenal school and being a part of it is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Sri Gurubhayo Namaha!!! Proud to showcase a small segment of the performance of Meghana Pavuluris varnam. Meghana has been my student since she was 5 years old. This year was supposed to be her arangetram but has been postponed due to Covid. Meghana continues to learn and practice and has stayed motivated through these trying times. Hopefully we will see her arangetram in the upcoming year. She learnt this varnam online through Zoom. The varnam is Nandagopalan Ennai, a composition by Madurai Muralidaran. Meghana has also been an intergral part of Indian-Fusion Dance Academy and an exceptional volunteer at InFUSE. Praying the blessings of God, Gurus, and Elders on this beautiful girl !!!

Kalanityam is proud to present Amelia Rajakumar. Amelia has been training in Bharathanatyam under my guidance for the past 8 years. On this very auspicious Father's day Amelia dedicating her performance to her d...ad and to honor all dads around the world. She is performing an excerpt from her varnam "Annaiyai Maravedi" where the pallavis mean "I WILL NEVER FORGET MY MOM" and "THERE IS NO GREATER MAGIC THAN THE WORDS OF A FATHERr".
