[Antarctica trip log: Part 2] The next day the crew set out in the Zodiac once more, gliding past ice bergs the size of supermarkets to land at the base of Spig...ot Peak, a 285m black rocky out-crop on Orne Harbour. Climbing it was a 4-hour journey. As the climbs are so long, the crew only gets one shot at it. Thankfully, the weather held out and Torah completed the ride down with arms in the air for victory. This climb gave us one of the breathtaking opening shots of the film! Photos by Cam Batten #mountainadventurefilm #imaxfilm #antarctica #spigotpeak #triplog #behindthescenes

We know polar bears depend on sea ice for hunting seals, and raising their young. But there could be more to the story: a recent study by Thomas Brown, a marine... ecologist at the Scottish Association for Marine Science, suggests we could be overlooking sea ice's role in providing energy for polar bears. The underside of sea ice is covered with algae species, the foundation of the Arctic food web. At least for the 3 Northern Canadian bear populations in the study, 70% of their diet can be traced to algae growing on sea ice! Photo by Alan D. Wilson.
