Dashain is the 15 day long national auspicious festival of Nepal. It symbolizes the victory of the good over the evil. The tenth day of the festival, Elders puts "Tika" a mixture of rice, yogurt and vermilion and" Jamara" which is planted in the 1st day of festival called "Ghatasthapana" on the forehead of younger relatives to bless them with abundance in the years to come. Jyoti Foundation wishes, may the festival brings joy and happiness to our elderly people.

Jyoti Foundation would like to introduce you to Ram Thapa, a 78 year old man, and his wife, 66 year old Masinee Thapa. Mr. and Mrs. Thapa reside in a single room. Ram Thapa has been paralyzed for an extended period of time and has not been able to support his wife and their adopted daughter. Masinee Thapa was supporting the family as a labor worker. However, due to a fall from a tree, she is no longer able to support her family regularly as she lost her right arm. Mr. and... Mrs. Thapa do not have children of their own. The couple adopted an abandoned baby girl who is now 12 years of age. Their 12 year old daughter is receiving free education at a government school. Mr. and Mrs. Thapa have been surviving with the help from their landlord. They pay rent when they can. However, their landlord understands they do not always have money for rent or food. The landlord gives food when needed as well as does not require them to pay their rent when they do not have the means. They have been living in a one room home for the last 25 years. They struggle to meet their basic needs of life. Just like the helpless baby girl they took in 12 years ago to raise as their own, they are now in need of help to survive. We cannot help the elderly people of Nepal like Ram and Masinee Thapa without your help. Through your financial support, we are able to be a part of caring for the needs of many elderly people of Nepal who suffer and live in such poor and desolate conditions. Please help us continue in "Bringing Darkness to Light" (Jyoti) to the elderly people of Nepal. See more
