Jurupa Valley Adopt a Family Program

It’s that time of year again... Our Holiday giving program applications are live and we will be accepting them till November 30th. Access them on our website www.jvadoptafamily.org. As for the parade we are finalizing our new policy for Covid and we should be releasing information about where we will be visiting this year very soon.

For the last month and a half we have had nursing students from West Coast University at our office deep cleaning, organizing, and assessing our new normal as we prepare to enter our holiday season. The Jurupa Valley Adopt a Family will be holding our normal holiday giving program as we have in the past. Applications go live October 15th. As for the parade we are working out some details and will hopefully have details for the community by the end of October. Watch for updates as we hope to still bring the parade with some adjustments based on social distancing and the health and safety of our volunteers and parade spectators.

19 years ago 246 people went to sleep on September 10,2001 in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10:00am on Sept 11, 2001. In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. May we take a moment today to remember those lives lost in this horrific event that our country endured.

This year Relay for Life was a little different for our team. Due to our current situation relay went virtual. Not being able to walk the track as we normally do was hard, yet our small team made the best of it. We were honored to host the opening and closing ceremonies at our teams celebration. Our chairman Jennifer treated the Jurupa Valley Sheriff Station to cupcakes from the Relay for Life cupcakes for a cause fundraiser. The JV Sheriff station is one of our biggest supporters of the Santa Express parade. They spend hours volunteering to help keep our volunteers safe and organized during our parades. Thank you for all you do for our community.

As we celebrate Independence Day this year, things don't look and feel the same. No large gatherings, no beach parties, no burning down Mt. Rubidoux. But the one thing we can all count on is this. " The Flag still stands for Freedom, and the can't take that away..... And i'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free.. And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me And i'll gladly stand up, next to you and defend Her still today.... Cuz there ain't no doubt, I love this land GOD BLESS THE USA!!!! Today is June 14th. Congress has declared that on this day, we, as a Nation, honor our flag. 3 colors joined together as a sign of unity, bravery and loyalty. 13 stripes signifying the original 13 colonies. 50 stars signifying the 50 states. While we have social unrest in this great Country of ours, and we're doing our best to ward off the virus, we should take a moment to honor our Flag, and remember all of those who fought and gave their all to defend it. Thank you to everyone who joined us Saturday, 4/25 for Relay USA! Relay USA featured all the traditional elements of Relay you know and love opening ceremony,... survivor lap, caregiver recognition, and a luminaria ceremony in an all-virtual experience. We were joined by celebrities, American Cancer Society staff, and Relayers around the world. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this special event!

We at the Jurupa Valley Adopt a Family hope everyone is staying safe and practicing precautions with the uncharted waters we are in. With everything going on we wanted to let our volunteers know we have extended our Angel Sanchez Sr. Scholarship applications. Our volunteers who are either graduating from high school or continuing in their college education can now apply on our website www.jvadoptafamily.org under the programs tab. Applications will now close April 5 at noon.
