Julian Historical Society 27.12.2020

The Julian Historical Society 2020 high school scholarship was awarded to Nicole Arias last week. Nicole presented her project about the history of FFA, featuring the begin of the program in Julian and the people who helped build the FFA into what it is today as a part of the high school curriculum. Nicole will be attending The university at Davis this fall. Congratulations Nicole, we are pleased we could contribute to your education.

Reporting with heavy heart the passing of our dear friend and dedicated docent Mr. Richard Miller. Mr. Miller arrived in Julian a few years ago, and like other Historical Society volunteers before him, read everything he could find on Julian History. He asked a lot of questions about Julian history and volunteered to share all his knowledge. Mr. Miller loved trains, small and large, and cars, especially his Miata. He gave his time generously, donned his Stetson when at the Transport Museum while explaining the workings of the Mack and Cadillac stages. He will certainly be missed.

25 new views in one week, that is probably a new record. We wish we could open the museums so we could meet you all in person. If you have not visited our web page, Julianhistoricalsociety.org, you might enjoy the photos and history on the pages, leave a comment if you wish.

Mr. Simonson has updated our display at the Julian town hall. The Transport Museum and the Witch Creek School are still closed to the public. The Board will be working on a plan to open the museums in the coming months, and we have suspended our general/speaker meetings until it is safe to have a gathering of more than 10 people.
