C.A.R. today unveiled a Fair Housing and Equity legislative package designed to help address ongoing fair housing and equity issues that persist, especially for communities of color. The package is part of C.A.R.’s Californians Need Housing Now initiative, which urges the Legislature to enact policies that address California’s worsening housing affordability and availability crisis with increased housing supply and fair housing reforms. Specifically, the bills address the historic and ongoing inequities facing Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) that have made it harder for these communities to access and afford housing in California.

The Department of Real Estate (DRE) is alerting its licensees about a scam that already has targeted some real estate brokers and salespersons. As part of the scheme, scammers are identifying themselves as DRE investigators or staff members who then notify the licensees that they are under investigation, or subject to a citation or other disciplinary action, and must pay DRE to clear their license. They will demand that you wire them money. They say it will go to DRE, but it ...actually ends up in the hands of the scammers. In some instances, the scammers may identify themselves as law enforcement and make similar demands. The scammers may be spoofing DRE telephone numbers to make the calls seem legitimate. In at least one instance, a licensee was contacted by a person claiming to be a DRE employee who advised them that they had to pay a fine for an instance of forgery DRE found. The scammer then directed the licensee to go to a money transmitter and wire payment immediately. The licensee went to do that. Luckily, they were stopped by an alert money transmitter, who advised them, it was likely a scam. Continue to the link to read the DRE's tips about avoiding falling victim to this scam.

Reminder that Sexual Harassment Training is due by January 1, 2021 for Brokers/Supervisors (2 hours) and any employees (1 hour) for any Broker that has at least 5 employees OR agents working for them. Sales agents are not at this time required to complete the training, but are encouraged to do so anyway.

New guidelines and processes have been approved by Fish and Game for conditional removal of dead and hazard Joshua Trees, as well as new, more stringent permitting processes to remove trees in the development of single-family residences and public projects.
