Data Release: Silicon Valley unemployment has declined by 0.4 percentage points. As of mid-September, approximately 103,400 people in Silicon Valley’s labor force remained unemployed. Joint Venture’s Institute for Regional Studies today released analysis of Silicon Valley’s unemployment rate through September along with the historical trend back to the year 2000. Dr. Mo Shakouri, director of community broadband for Joint Venture's civic technologies initiative will present at the IEEE 6G Summit on October 27. Dr. Shakouri will review the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Global Cities Initiative study that is focused on Agriculture and Rural Development. The presentation will identify efforts aimed at ensuring viable rural communities for farmers and other residents by improving educational resources (including closing the homework gap), healthcare, aging in place, and economic development. Joint Venture's Institute for Regional Studies has released analysis that reveals that the market cap of Silicon Valley and San Francisco stocks, in aggregate, are now 11% and 7% higher, respectively, than prior to the pandemic-related decline. The Institute has examined how Silicon Valley and San Francisco’s publicly-traded companies have fared in the six months following the market’s lowest point on March 23. The analysis was conducted as an indicator of regional economic health, as opposed to market analyses focusing on the health of individual companies or interests of the stakeholder perspective.
