We’re a little late, but we would like to show appreciation to our 3 wonderful Library Media Tech’s. Thank you for everything you do for our students and staff!
Congratulations Warriors!
Way to go Warriors!
Welcome back, Warriors!
From our Music Teacher at John Swett High School, Felix Cadiz: Try and do what we can, was my default answer to the frequently asked How do you teach music online? With the differences in my students’ home life and the technological limitations that follow, I often questioned the necessity of music in this digitally reliant time. Is it worth making tutorial videos knowing that most students will press submit without watching it. Is it worth trying to stitch together virtu...al ensembles to make things feel normal? Is it worth holding a class where I only see the avatars of my students for an hour each week? Is it worth it to keep music alive even if the unity, camaraderie, and community we all feed off of is separated by screens? After over a year of strictly distance learning, I can say that every struggle was worth it and music definitely belongs in this age of technology. While we are not close to ending the pandemic, things are starting to slowly return to normal as my first day of hybrid learning begins tomorrow. Like most, I have not seen my students for over a year. Although I will not see most of my students during this hybrid schedule, I am flooded with excitement and nervousness. Even though there are more projects to share and a few more to finish, I thought this moment would be a great time to share what we were able to accomplish during this year apart from one another. From music production to foley artistry, to sound settings and virtual ensembles (complete with introduction skits for laughs and rapport building), we did what we could. Could things be better? Of course! But when life gives you lemons, make beef stew. Thanks for coming to my TedTalk. I should probably stop writing essays for social media posts. Anyway, here are links to some of the student projects. Enjoy!
