Wire Fraud Warning! Anyone who is in the process of doing an Escrow in which they plan to wire there closing costs into Escrow, need to be extremely careful prior to sending funds. I just recently was involved in a transaction where the buyers email was hacked and someone had duplicated escrow and their lender emails to look just like them. Then just before funding, sent email from what appeared to be escrow including photos and told them it was time to deposit funds to insur...e there was no delay. Wiring Instructions all looked legit, except, there was an individuals name above the escrow company. Fortunately, the banker caught it and they were able to contact escrow confirming it was not from them! Always, contact your escrow person by phone to verify that the wiring instructions were sent by them. Even better, is to request wiring instructions be sent with the loan docs if a notary is being used, or, pick them up in person if you are signing docs at the escrow company!
