Celebrating Black History Month, here is jazz drummer John Tirabasso, a local who taught many of our JMHS students through the years. He is the inspiration behind the John Tirabasso Youth Jazz Ensemble that still meets at Muir as a community jazz group. Tower Records says this about this album that tags more of our local fine musicians: "The excellent journeyman jazz drummer John "Terry" Tirabasso was born in Cleveland, Ohio where he studied at the Cleveland and Kansas City C...onservatories before fine tuning his technique with Charlie Wilcoxan, Jay McShann, and Hank Geer. John has performed with the bands of Glen Gray, Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, Billy Eckstine, Red Norvo, Clair Fisher, Warne Marsh, Gary Foster, and the Tirabasso/Clawson Orchestra just to name a few. In 1978 John released the wonderful rare jazz album presented here, "Diamonds, Cufflinks & Mink" featuring the great Gary Foster (alto and tenor saxophones); Dave Koonse (guitar); Frank Marocco (accordion) and Pat "Putter" Smith (bass)." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRZQCxhQVlg See more
