Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Leagues across the Association have been working hard to meet community needs. This National Volunteer Week (April... 18-24), we send a huge thank you to the amazing Members whose brave and selfless work is making an impact. Our work has not stopped, and with adjustments made for the safety of our Members, you are setting an inspiring example of the monumental importance of voluntarism in times of unrest. Effective immediately, all individuals 16 years old and older are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in Kern County. Visit MyTurn.ca.gov or call the Public Heal...th Call Center at 661-321-3000. Staff are ready to assist our community to make vaccination appointments and answer questions. Look who stopped by the Junior League of Bakersfield for a visit! This is Lauren & Flat Stanley from Wisconsin. Flat Stanley is from a children’s book series where a bulletin board fell on Stanley and flatten him so now he can mail himself around the world and visit/learn about other locations. It’s typically a 2nd grade year project in the Midwest. We’re told Stanley was glad to escape cold snowy WI and visit warm sunny CA. We’re happy he’s out celebrating our love for literacy!

There’s still time to purchase an adorable pair of cozy socks as a festive stocking stuffer! Right now, we’re selling a wide variety of styles and colors and for every two packs purchased, The Junior League of Bakersfield will be donating a pair locally to someone in need! Last year we saw the faces of some amazing kids at a local shelter light up when they saw the cute socks we had brought for them. ***EVENT CANCELLED*** Out of an abundance of caution and due to the surge in Covid-19 infections in Kern County along with the Governor’s announcement this week of a potential stay at home order, the Junior League of Bakersfield has decided to cancel our upcoming fundraiser, the Bakersfield Holiday Market, Saturday, December 5. Our plan was to host an open air event outside of our Community Center for our beloved local vendors and shoppers, but the community's health and safe...ty must be our first priority. We look forward to hosting a similar event when we can be together in person again. Yes, we are still accepting vendors for the Bakersfield Holiday Market! Do you or someone fabulous here in Kern County own a spectacular boutique you’d like showcased at our open air shopping extravaganza? Please reach out to us at [email protected] ASAP!
